This is a nice little Academy model that I made back in 2006. There is not much I can remember about it except that I found it to be an enjoyable little model to build. The USMC camoflage was a bit tricky to paint freehand with a single action airbrush ( I have since upgraded to a double action airbrush), but otherwise it was pretty easy. I found the Jeeps just a little bit harder, especially the SAS Jeep.
As I mentioned before, the camoflage on the model was painted freehand with an airbrush. 1/48 CH-46 wheel masks were used to paint the headlights and then a light wash with diluted burnt umber watercolour paint was applied overall. I drybrushed the radio, spare tyre and dashboard to highlight any detail. I then liberally sprayed Gunze H341 mud over the model for that used look. The spare tyre is a new one, so it missed out. Tamiya have since come out with the weathering sticks which look interesting to use. This was a fun build and is great to try out your freehand airbrushing skill with the camoflage. Phillip Roache |
