Airtank for Airbrushing

Tools 'n' Tips Article by Steve Bamford

This set up is pretty simple to make.  The tank comes with the Air tank pressure gauge and filler nipple.  I had to buy the water trap and pressure regulator valve and the fittings etc to piece the whole thing together.  Remember to use plumbers tape (Teflon(?) tape) on all the threaded joints between all the fittings and copper pipe etc.  I have a large compressor in my garage that I use to fill up this tank...although you could also fill it up at the local gas station.

This set-up I use is a 5 Gallon air tank...it's Ok if you have a compressor in the garage to refill it, like I do.  But the 9 or 10 gallon (35 to 40 liters) is the best choice.  This  5 gallon tank empties faster than I want.

Oh...and forget about trying this set-up with an old spare tire.  You need a tank that can safely hold 80 to 100 psi of pressure.  The spare tire would only hold about 35 psi, so it would be low on pressure shortly after you begin airbrushing.

BUY the 9 or 10 gallon tank instead.
